Sheffield's Uber Eats Bots Get a Graffiti Makeover and Bent Flags!

In the city of Sheffield, new delivery robots used by Uber Eats have been vandalised. These robots, which are operated by Starship Technologies, are designed to deliver food to people in the Meersbrook area. The robots are small, with green and white bodies, and each has a tall pole with an orange flag to make them easy to see. Recently, some of these robots were spray-painted, and one even had a sad face drawn on it. The flagpole on one robot was bent down to the ground, and traffic cones were placed behind some robots to stop them from moving. The charging station where the robots rest was also spray-painted.

Starship Technologies, the company that owns the robots, said it is disappointing to see a few people damaging the new service. They believe the robots are helpful for local people, making it easier and faster to get food delivered. Louisa Farrett, who lives near the robot charging station, said that technology is becoming more common in our lives. She finds it a bit strange to see a robot coming towards her on the street. She remembered a time when she was carrying her shopping and a robot swerved to avoid her at the last moment.

The robots are fully autonomous, which means they can move around by themselves. They use cameras and sensors to help them cross roads and avoid people safely. However, some people are worried about the cameras on the robots. Adam Dolling, a local business owner, said he thinks the robots are a bit creepy because of all the cameras. He is concerned about what happens to the data the robots collect. Starship Technologies says they follow strict rules to protect people’s privacy and do not share any recordings or images with Uber. Uber Eats says the robots have made almost ten million deliveries around the world and have always followed high safety standards. They are talking to the community to address any concerns and want to make sure the robots are helpful for everyone.
