Meet the Family Fleet Behind 1,130 Blockbuster Film Sets

Addlestone Movie Makers, located in Addlestone, Surrey, is a family-run business that has played a key role in the production of more than 1,130 films and TV shows. The company provides facility vehicles such as star trailers, makeup and wardrobe trucks, dining buses, and mobile production offices to crews working on location. Tommy Traylen, the founder, started the company over 30 years ago with the goal of making life easier for film crews. Today, the company has grown to include a fleet of more than 700 vehicles and employs around 200 staff members, with offices in the UK and Indiana, US.

Movie Makers has been involved in many well-known productions, including Maleficent, Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dumbo, Eastenders, and Fleabag. Tommy Traylen says that some celebrities specifically request Movie Makers' vehicles, and sometimes they will not participate in a film unless they get them. He recalls working with Robert De Niro on the film Ronin in 1997, which was his first job with the actor. De Niro and his team were pleased with the service, leading to more collaborations, including the film Analyze This in 1999.

Running such a large operation comes with a lot of responsibility and stress. Tommy admits that he used to thrive on stress, but now realizes it is not good for him. He has worked through the night many times to make sure commitments are met and production schedules are not delayed. If Movie Makers cannot provide their services on time, it could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. Tommy's sons are now part of the team, continuing the family legacy with the same dedication and attention to detail. Addlestone Movie Makers may not always be in the spotlight, but their work is essential to the success of many film and TV productions.
