Dad-Daughter Duo's Epic 7,500-Mile Race Across Europe and Asia!

Molly Clifford and her father Andrew took on an incredible challenge together by joining the BBC show Race Across The World. This show is famous for sending pairs of contestants on a huge journey, covering about 7,500 miles across Europe and Asia, without letting them use airplanes, smartphones, or credit cards. For Molly, who is 23 and works as a junior doctor, disappearing from her normal life for two months was not easy. She had to keep her participation a secret, which made her friends and family worry. Some thought she was missing, while others believed she had stopped talking to them.

The race began in Palermo, Sicily, and the first checkpoint was Fiskardo, a village on the Greek island of Kefalonia. Molly and Andrew had to travel by land and sea, using trains, ferries, and even kayaks to get around. They had a limited budget, so they had to be creative. For example, when they were short on Euros for a train ticket, they convinced a local to exchange money with them. They also split a taxi fare with another team to save money. Along the way, they worked local jobs and depended on the kindness of strangers to help them reach their goals.

One of the hardest parts for Molly was not having her phone. She was used to being connected all the time, so going two months without texting or calling anyone felt like she had disappeared from the world. She even had to keep the secret from her parish priest, which she found difficult. The journey took them through eight countries, including Italy, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia. The conditions were tough, with temperatures ranging from hot Mediterranean weather to freezing cold. Andrew, who is a geography teacher, said every day was a new challenge, but it brought him and Molly closer together. He is extremely proud of his daughter and the skills she showed during the race. Molly said she was scared at times, especially when traveling to places she knew little about, but having her dad with her made it easier. Their adventure was not just about winning the race, but also about growing as a team and making memories that will last a lifetime.
