George Michael's Iconic 'Faith' Jacket Fetches £176K at Auction!
A black leather jacket worn by George Michael in his iconic 'Faith' music video has been sold at auction for an impressive £176,400. The jacket, which features a red BSA logo on the back decorated with crystals, was made by the London fashion brand La Rocka and was worn by Michael during the early part of his 1988 Faith tour. The auction was held by Propstore, a company based in Hertfordshire, and included other valuable music memorabilia such as a gold microphone used by Queen's Freddie Mercury and a guitar played and signed by Slash from Guns N' Roses. The Slash guitar set a new world record by selling for £233,100, while the gold microphone fetched £151,200. A poster signed by John Lennon just hours before his death was also sold for £75,600.
The jacket is not just a piece of clothing but a symbol of George Michael's transformation from his days in Wham! to a solo superstar. Michael formed Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley when they were both students at Bushey Meads School in Hertfordshire. After the group split, Michael released his first solo album, 'Faith,' in 1987. In the music video for the title track, he introduced a tougher, rock-and-roll image, wearing the La Rocka jacket, ripped blue jeans, and aviator sunglasses while playing guitar. In a 2010 interview, Michael said that he created the 'Faith' look himself without the help of a stylist. The jacket had been kept in storage since the end of the Faith tour and was only recently rediscovered before being put up for auction.
Propstore's music specialist, Mark Hochman, said the jacket was bought by a fan and will remain in the UK. He also mentioned that when the jackets were first sold in La Rocka's London shop, they cost just £290. The auction attracted collectors from all over the world, and several records were broken during the sale. Hochman said the strong results show how much people still love these legendary artists and the items connected to them. The auction was a big event for music fans, especially those who admire George Michael, Freddie Mercury, Slash, and John Lennon. These items are not just valuable because of their price but because they are part of music history and remind people of unforgettable moments and performances.
