Channel Islands Kids Unite to Sing a Catchy Christmas Dream Tune!

Pupils from Melrose Junior School in Guernsey recently took part in a special Christmas project, singing a song called 'Christmas Dream'. This song was written by two musicians, Adam Reece from Jersey and Emily Fern from Guernsey. The students wore their school uniforms, which included green blazers and blue and green checked skirts, and many added festive accessories like Santa hats to get into the Christmas spirit. They performed in their school hall, standing in front of a blue curtain, and their performance was recorded as part of a larger project.

The project involved 18 schools across the Channel Islands, with children from different islands coming together to sing and record 'Christmas Dream'. Adam Reece, who plays the piano, and Emily Fern, who sings, wrote the song last year in Guernsey. They wanted to create something that would bring children from Jersey and Guernsey together, helping to build a sense of community and reduce the rivalry between the islands. The musicians shared the videos of the performances on their social media channels, allowing people from all over to see the children singing and celebrating Christmas together.

Emily Fern explained that the song was written almost by accident, the night before a show when they realized they needed more material. She said that the supportive community in the Channel Islands inspired them to get everyone involved in a song made locally. Adam Reece added that the song is about bringing people together, especially during uncertain and troubled times. He believes that the real meaning of Christmas is about connection and togetherness. Students from Hautlieu School in Jersey also participated, with Tiago saying it was a wonderful experience and that the song was catchy and easy to learn. Ruby mentioned that new people joined every week, and everyone learned the song quickly. Delilah said she enjoyed the project and that it helped her get into the Christmas spirit. Chloe from Melrose Junior School thought it was nice to see all the schools included and believed everyone would like the song. George from Forest Primary School in Guernsey said he learned how to express himself through music and that the song showed how amazing Guernsey and the Channel Islands are. The musicians hope their song will help everyone feel more connected and joyful during the holiday season.
