Dive Into Fun: Big Geekend Sparks New Passions at Guernsey Museum!
The Big Geekend is making its return to the Guernsey Museum after a four-year break, inviting people of all ages to explore their hobbies and discover new interests. Organized by Miffy Lane, Vikki Gray, and Chris Bichard, the event aims to bring together a wide variety of activities and communities under one roof. The museum, with its glass doors and colorful displays, will be filled with excitement as visitors get the chance to see quirky collections and take part in hands-on experiences.
This year, the Big Geekend will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The States of Guernsey announced that the event will feature everything from fossils and archaeology to Sherlock Holmes, K-Pop cosplay, and creative crafts. Entry costs are the same as regular museum admission: seven pounds for adults, two pounds for students and children aged seven to seventeen, and free for children under seven. However, anyone who arrives in fancy dress or a costume will be allowed in for free, making it even more fun for those who love to dress up.
Miffy Lane, who is the access and learning manager for Guernsey Museums, hopes the event will inspire visitors to try something new. She said, 'The idea is that we are reaching out to a wide range of people. What I would love is for somebody visiting this weekend to go away with a new interest because actually it has sparked something they didn't know they were passionate about. ' The event will offer themed trails, creative workshops, performances, and interactive activities. Visitors can meet collectors, makers, artists, and performers, and even join in on the fun. Outside, the Priaulx Library Lawn will be transformed into a lively fantasy encampment, complete with pillow fight swordplay activities for children. There will also be displays from the Guernsey Military History Company, an archaeology tent, and Regency-inspired fashion and crafts. Miffy Lane added, 'I think one of the privileges of the Geekend is seeing people be so passionate about what they're interested in. ' The Big Geekend is a unique opportunity for people to celebrate their passions and maybe discover something new to love.
