From Ice Cream Seller to Outlander Star: Heughan’s Edinburgh Stage Comeback!

Sam Heughan, best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the popular TV series Outlander, is preparing for the show's final season this year. He applied to several drama schools, hoping to study in London, but an audition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland changed his mind. He felt an immediate connection to the place, drawn in by the energy and creativity he sensed there. Over the years, Sam's career flourished. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2022 and has since established scholarships to help aspiring artists overcome the financial challenges of training. He understands how difficult it can be to break into the industry and wants to give others the support he once needed.

In addition to acting, Sam is passionate about supporting new Scottish writers. He has created a script award to encourage actors and writers to develop their own projects, rather than waiting for opportunities to come to them. Away from the stage and screen, Sam has launched his own gin and whisky brand, inspired by his roots in Galloway. Outlander, which will end after eight seasons and 101 episodes, has had a huge impact on both the film industry and Scottish tourism.
