However, the launch of Muse Image was met with immediate backlash. Critics argued that this posed serious privacy risks and could lead to misuse of people's likenesses. The Hollywood union Sag-Aftra called Meta's decision to remove the feature a 'win' for users, having previously urged its members and all Instagram users to take steps to protect their images. Privacy International, a human rights charity based in London, also criticized the feature. They said that it showed how AI companies often see people's images and data as resources to be used, rather than things that belong to individuals. In response to the criticism, Meta admitted that it had 'missed the mark' with Muse Image and decided to take the feature down. The company said its intention was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be used for AI image generation. Meta also mentioned that Muse Image was only available on Instagram, but they are planning to add more AI features to other platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger.
