£8M Boost Lights Up West's Culture Scene with West End Flair!
Cultural venues across the West of England are set to benefit from a significant financial boost, with more than eight million pounds being distributed to museums, theatres, and libraries. This funding is part of the government’s Arts Everywhere Fund, which totals one and a half billion pounds and aims to make arts and culture more accessible to communities throughout the UK. Among the recipients are Taunton Brewhouse in Somerset and the TwoCan Theatre Company in Eastington, Gloucestershire, both of which will use the money to improve their facilities and reach more people.
Taunton Brewhouse, a theatre with 352 seats, will receive over half a million pounds. Executive director Vickie Robbins explained that the money will be used to renovate the building before its 50th anniversary next year. Planned improvements include new LED lighting and automatic doors, which will make the theatre more accessible for wheelchair users. Robbins expressed her excitement, saying, 'We’re so excited. We apply for grants all the time, so receiving this is a testament to the Arts Council’s confidence in us as an independent theatre venue. We’re absolutely thrilled and can’t wait to get going. '
Other venues in the region will also benefit from the funding. Bristol Museums will receive three and a half million pounds, while Trinity Community Arts and Bristol City Council’s libraries will get hundreds of thousands of pounds each. The TwoCan Inclusive Theatre Company, which offers workshops for deaf people and those with learning disabilities, will use its grant to modernize its Victorian schoolhouse building and improve energy efficiency. Artistic director Nickie Miles-Wildin said, 'It will make a massive difference. We’re still in shock that a small organization like TwoCan, which has been going for 12 years, has received this money. It’s just brilliant. ' Sir Nicholas Serota, chair of Arts Council England, emphasized the importance of these organizations, saying, 'Arts organizations, museums, and libraries are the beating heart of our communities. This vital investment will help them secure their futures and continue to provide access to excellent art and culture for everyone. '
