Next James Bond should be British, Pierce Brosnan says

Pierce Brosnan, the well-known actor who portrayed James Bond in several films, has recently shared his thoughts on who should take over the iconic role next. In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Brosnan stated that it is a 'given' that the next James Bond should be British. This statement comes as the franchise prepares for a new chapter under the creative control of Amazon. Brosnan, who hails from Ireland, expressed his belief that it was the 'right decision' for the long-time producers of the Bond films to hand over creative control to Amazon. He remarked, 'It takes great courage for them to let go,' and expressed hope that Amazon would treat the character of Bond with 'dignity and imagination and respect. ' The responsibility of selecting Daniel Craig's successor now lies with Amazon MGM Studios. Among the actors who are currently favorites to step into the role are James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Theo James, all of whom are English. Historically, the role of Bond has been played by two actors who were not British: George Lazenby from Australia and Brosnan himself from Ireland. However, there has never been an American actor to take on the role, although California-born Austin Butler has been mentioned in discussions. Other non-British actors suggested for the role include Irish stars Paul Mescal, Cillian Murphy, and Aidan Turner, as well as Australian Jacob Elordi. Interestingly, American actor Clint Eastwood was once approached to play Bond but declined, stating, 'It didn't feel right for me to be doing it. ' According to the original novels by Ian Fleming, Bond has a Scottish father and a Swiss mother. Under the new agreement, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson will remain co-owners of the franchise, while Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control. Brosnan, now 71 years old, reflected on his time as Bond, saying, 'History has been passed on, and I'm very proud to have been part of the history and the legacy of Bond and the movies I made with Barbara and Michael. ' He shared these thoughts while launching a new art project that showcases his drawings. Brosnan, with his grey hair and beard, looked distinguished while posing for the camera at Wimbledon. As for when the next James Bond will be announced, that remains uncertain, and there is no timeline for when the next film will be produced. The last film in the franchise, No Time To Die, was released in 2021 and marked Daniel Craig's final performance as Bond. Given the lengthy process of creating a blockbuster film, the gap between No Time To Die and the next installment could potentially exceed six years, breaking the record for the longest interval between Bond releases. Brosnan starred in four Bond films, beginning with GoldenEye in 1995 and concluding with Die Another Day in 2002.
