Calling Artists: Design Westward Ho!'s Next Iconic Village Landmark!

Artists are being invited to help create a new landmark for the village of Westward Ho! in Devon. Torridge District Council is looking for creative people who want to design a piece of public art that will represent the village and its unique character. The council has asked artists to send in their ideas, called expressions of interest, by 5 October. After the deadline, three artists will be chosen to develop their ideas further and will receive a fee for their work. Councillor Claire Hodson believes that the new artwork could become a valued landmark in the village, helping residents feel proud and giving visitors a new cultural experience.

Westward Ho! is known for its beautiful beach, where people enjoy relaxing, walking, and playing on the sand. The sea stretches out far, and the waves create a white line at the shore. Sometimes, seagulls fly close to the beach, adding to the lively atmosphere. The village also has a row of houses painted in bright colors like yellow, purple, pink, green, and blue, making the area cheerful and welcoming. There are palm trees in some gardens, and people often stroll along the pavement in front of the houses.

The council hopes that the new artwork will reflect the spirit of Westward Ho! and become a place where both locals and tourists can gather and take photos. The project is part of a larger effort to bring more art and culture to the area. Artists who are interested in taking part should send their ideas to the council before the deadline.
