This happened after Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, refused to give the US defense agencies unlimited access to their AI tools. Mayor Khan wrote a letter to Amodei, expressing his concern about the US government's actions. He said it seemed like the government was trying to punish Anthropic for keeping ethical rules in place for their AI. Anthropic has said they plan to fight the Pentagon's decision in court. The mayor's office also confirmed that they have been in talks with senior leaders at Anthropic this week.

Amodei was worried about the possibility of the military using Anthropic's AI for things like mass surveillance or making decisions about military targets without human control.
