'I'm a virtual reality fashion designer in Fortnite'

Holly New is a fashion designer who has started making clothes for people in the virtual world of Fortnite. She recently completed her master's degree in Digital Fashion Innovation at Arts University Bournemouth, and she was given the opportunity to design a custom outfit for the singer NØELLE to wear during a concert inside the game. Holly described this experience as an 'amazing opportunity' and said that designing clothes in Virtual Reality is even more exciting than traditional fashion. She told the BBC, 'I'm the world's first VR fashion designer, which is a super exciting place to be in.

For the Fortnite concert, Holly created a unique digital outfit for NØELLE. In one photo, Holly is seen sitting on a chair wearing a white suit, while in another, NØELLE's digital avatar is dressed in a blue dress that looks futuristic and magical. Fortnite is a hugely popular video game with around 400 million registered players. The game has different modes, but its online battle royale mode is the most famous. Many well-known artists, such as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Metallica, and Travis Scott, have performed virtual concerts in Fortnite. During these events, players can move their characters around and watch the shows from different angles. Earlier this month, Fortnite players received a special code to attend NØELLE's concert in the game.

Holly's goal is to make Virtual Reality fashion more common and accepted. She appears in a black and white photo next to some of her fashion designs displayed on mannequins. One design is a buttoned-up shirt with a leaf pattern, and another is a v-neck shirt with square patterns. Holly is smiling, with long dark hair, wearing a white vest and jeans. When designing in VR, Holly draws over 3D avatars in the digital space, which means the clothes only exist in the virtual world. She explained, 'It opens up so many opportunities. Not only is it faster to design, it's more collaborative and it reduces waste in terms of sampling and saving fabric. ' Holly was contacted by Copper Candle, a company that creates virtual theatre and live events in Fortnite, to make a unique outfit for the game. She said, 'They approached me to make this amazing outfit and get it game ready. ' Holly is now working with more artists and wants to push the boundaries of digital gaming, fashion, and VR. She said, 'I'm making it my mission to make VR fashion industry-wide.
