Israel pounds southern Gaza as hunger grows; WHO pleads hospitals be spared

On Tuesday, Israeli tanks and warplanes launched an assault on southern Gaza. The United Nations (UN) reported that the distribution of aid to Gazans, who are increasingly facing hunger, has largely ceased due to the severity of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, which is now in its third month.

In Khan Younis, the primary city in southern Gaza, Israeli troops initiated an attack last week. Residents reported that the focus of the tank shelling has now shifted to the city centre. One resident disclosed that tanks were active on Tuesday morning in the street where Yahya Al-Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, resides. Tawfik Abu Breika, an elderly Palestinian, recounted how his residential block in Khan Younis was unexpectedly hit by a new Israeli air strike on Tuesday, resulting in the collapse of several buildings and numerous casualties.

Breika expressed his despair to Reuters, stating, 'The world’s conscience is dead, no humanity or any kind of morals. This is the third month that we are facing death and destruction. This is ethnic cleansing, complete destruction of the Gaza Strip to displace the whole population. ' Further south in Rafah, a city bordering Egypt, health officials reported that 22 individuals, including children, were killed in an Israeli air strike on residential buildings. Emergency workers are currently searching for additional victims beneath the rubble.
