Since Wang's visit, three consultations have taken place between the US and China, covering maritime issues, policy planning, and the advancement of disability rights. Both sides are working towards a leaders' summit between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month in San Francisco. Patel reiterated the US's call for the PRC to engage substantively on arms control issues and risk reduction. He stated that this engagement would continue efforts to responsibly manage the relationship and ensure competition does not escalate into conflict.
