Rare twin elephants born in Thailand 'miracle'

A rare and miraculous event occurred in central Thailand when a 36-year-old Asian elephant named Chamchuri gave birth to a set of twins. The elephants were born at the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal, and the birth was unexpected. The first calf, a male, was born last Friday, and the staff initially thought the delivery was complete. However, they were surprised to hear a loud thud while cleaning up the first calf, only to realize that Chamchuri had given birth to a second calf, a female. The second birth caused the mother to panic, and caretakers had to intervene to prevent her from stepping on the female calf. Unfortunately, one caretaker was injured in the process. Twins are extremely rare in elephant births, occurring in only one percent of cases. Male-female twins are even more uncommon, according to Save the Elephants, a research organization.
