Star Wars devotee brings collection to town museum

Matt Fox, a dedicated Star Wars fan, is bringing his impressive collection of memorabilia to the Lynn Museum in King's Lynn, Norfolk. The exhibition, called 'May the Toys be with You,' will open on July 15 and will feature more than 300 items from the original Star Wars trilogy. These include action figures, posters, and toys that have been carefully collected over the years. Matt says that what is on display is only a small part of his entire collection, which he estimates could be worth up to £150,000. He remembers how, in the 1970s and 80s, movie posters were painted by artists, making them as valuable as any artwork you might see in a gallery. Matt is thrilled to share his collection with both longtime fans and those who are new to the Star Wars universe.

The exhibition will showcase models of the famous battleships from the movies, as well as a life-size Stormtrooper costume. Visitors will be able to get a close look at iconic ships like the X-wing, displayed in glass cases. Matt says that his favorite piece is his first Star Wars toy, Darth Vader, even though the character is the main villain. He jokes that collecting is like a sickness, but sharing the collection with others is the only cure. The exhibition also features pairs of figures that show how the toys changed slightly when they were made in different countries, giving visitors a chance to see the variety in Star Wars merchandise.

Dayna Woolbright, the curator at Lynn Museum, believes that Star Wars toys are just as valuable as the fine art and ancient artifacts usually displayed at the museum. She says the museum tries to offer a wide range of exhibitions and hopes that this Star Wars show will attract people who might not have visited before. Dayna believes there is something for everyone at the museum, and this exhibition is a great way to bring the magic of Star Wars to King's Lynn.
