Serbian officer shot with crossbow outside embassy
A Serbian police officer was injured in a crossbow attack outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The attacker used a crossbow and hit the officer in the neck. The officer then shot and killed the attacker. The police officer was taken to the hospital for surgery and is in a life-threatening condition. The attacker has not been identified yet. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said the attacker approached a small building at the front of the Israeli embassy around 11:00 AM, asking about a museum. The man then opened the door to the small building, took out a crossbow, and shot the officer. The officer returned fire and the attacker died about 30 minutes later. Special prosecutors are now handling the case and several people have been arrested as a precaution.
While the interior minister suggested the attack might be part of a larger threat, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic called it 'a crime of an individual' and described it as 'an act of insanity, which cannot be attributed to any religion and any nation. ' The Israeli foreign ministry said the embassy was closed at the time of the incident and no employees were injured.
This incident in Belgrade is not the first time someone has seemingly attempted to stage an attack on an Israeli embassy since the Gaza war that Israel began after Hamas's October 7 attack against southern Israel. The police are investigating the incident and trying to find out more about the attacker. The Serbian government is taking the situation very seriously and has increased security around the embassy. The police are also looking into whether the attacker had any help or if he was acting alone. The Israeli embassy in Belgrade is now under heavy guard and the police are making sure that no one else can get close to it. The Serbian government is working with the Israeli government to ensure the safety of the embassy and its staff. The police are also asking anyone with information about the attacker to come forward and help with the investigation.
