Artist's 206 Vibrant Tea Towels Vanish Before Big Art Show!

Holly Searle, a textile artist from Ruislip, is facing a major setback after her entire collection of 206 tea towels disappeared in the mail just days before a big art show. Holly has spent seven years creating her Subverted Tea Towel Series, which she started in 2020. Each tea towel is unique, featuring bright colors and a mix of serious and humorous messages. She uses vintage textiles as the base for her art, adding her own written commentary to make people think and sometimes laugh. Holly was preparing to display her collection at the Alton Arts Festival in Hampshire, a community event that includes poetry, music, and comedy. To get her artwork to the festival, she sent the whole collection in a single box using Parcelforce’s 48-hour delivery service on June 22. Unfortunately, the package never arrived.

When Holly checked the tracking information, she saw that the box had stopped moving shortly after it was sent. It was last scanned at a depot and has not been seen since. Royal Mail, which is responsible for the delivery, has apologized and said they are investigating, but so far, they have not been able to find the box. Holly is devastated because her artwork is not just her passion but also her livelihood. She explained that the loss is 'irreplaceable' since she has spent years searching for unusual tea towels and turning them into art. Her work has even been shown at Alexander Palace, where visitors were amazed by the colorful display.

Holly was also scheduled to lead a workshop at the festival, teaching others about her creative process and encouraging them to try making their own tea towel art. Now, without her collection, she feels let down and frustrated. She said, 'They can't locate it. It looks like it's been scanned in but it's not been scanned out. ' While Royal Mail continues to look for the missing package, Holly feels their response has not matched the importance of her loss. 'I guess they try and do as much as they can, but I don't feel like people are being as helpful as they could be... but then it's really important to me. It's not as important to them. ' Royal Mail has promised to keep searching for the parcel, but for now, Holly is left hoping her years of hard work will be found and returned so she can share her art with the community once again.
