From Graffiti Gloom to Nature Boom: A Vibrant Mural Awakens Wiltshire Roadside

Sarah Harris, a talented artist from Wiltshire, has completely changed the look of an old barn near the busy A419 road by painting a large, colorful mural. The barn used to be covered in graffiti and was considered an eyesore by people living nearby. Sarah spent 19 days working on the mural during the summer, even though there were heatwaves that made it very difficult. She said that sometimes the paint would get so hot it would start to boil, so she had to start painting very early in the morning and finish before the hottest part of the day.

While Sarah was working, many local residents came to see her progress. One of her visitors was Eric Cripps, the 90-year-old town crier of Cricklade, who came dressed in his official clothes and rang his bell to encourage her. Sarah said she was amazed by how many people stopped by and how much attention the mural got. She thinks it is because there are not many murals of this size in the Cricklade and Latton area, so people were excited to see something new and beautiful.

The mural shows a peaceful river scene with local animals, including a kingfisher bird, and horses, which were requested by North Meadow Livery, the group that asked Sarah to paint the mural. Stuart Harrison, a local resident, took photos of the finished mural and said Sarah did a fantastic job. He was impressed by the details and the way she made the barn look so much better. Sarah usually works as a data analyst in Cirencester, but she enjoys painting murals in her free time. The people who live near the barn are happy that the old eyesore has been turned into a work of art that everyone can enjoy. North Meadow Livery said the mural captures the spirit of the area in one picture and brings joy to everyone who sees it.
