Only 21 other apartments in the city are more expensive, with the highest costing $128 million near Central Park.

The Flatiron Building was completed in 1902 and was considered an architectural marvel at the time. Its steel-frame construction made it one of the first skyscrapers in New York. Designed by Daniel Burnham, the building was originally called 'Burnham's Folly' because people worried it might fall over due to its thin shape. Over the years, the Flatiron has housed many different businesses, including clothing companies, toy makers, and publishing houses. It was always used as office space until 2019, when the last tenants moved out. After that, the building sat empty while the owners decided what to do next. In 2023, they began turning it into high-end condos, with 36 apartments planned.

The new apartments are designed to be open and modern, with some taking up half a floor and others a whole floor. Prices start at $11 million for a three-bedroom unit and go up to $58. 5 million for a five-bedroom apartment with a balcony. The building will also have new amenities like a swimming pool, a billiards room, a piano lounge, and a wellness center. Residents are expected to start moving in soon, and all the work should be finished by early 2027. During the renovation, workers discovered some hidden features, like an old balcony and a wooden revolving door from the 1910s. These pieces of history are being restored or recreated to keep the building's unique character. The outside of the Flatiron will be lit up at night for the first time, allowing everyone to admire its beauty. The building's transformation is not just about luxury living; it's also about celebrating its rich history and making it a special place for new residents and the city.
