£1M Shinfield Project Set to Supercharge Local Nature and Green Trails!

A major initiative worth one million pounds has started in Shinfield, aiming to boost biodiversity and improve green spaces as part of the larger Shinfield Studios development. The first phase of this project is expected to be completed by mid-December and will focus on creating a new public footpath. This path will link the Eastern Relief Road to Cutbush Lane, making it easier for people to walk and cycle around the area near the Thames Valley Science Park, which is owned by the University of Reading.

The second phase of the project will begin next year and will include soft landscaping, such as planting new trees and shrubs and installing fencing. These changes are designed to increase the ecological value of the area, making it a better place for wildlife and people. The project is not just about restoring habitats for animals and plants, but also about creating spaces where the community can enjoy nature. Molli Cleaver, the community engagement manager at Reading University, explained that the goal is to help both people and nature thrive together.

She said the team is excited to open up new green routes for walking and cycling, giving local residents more opportunities to connect with the natural environment right on their doorstep. The project is part of a wider effort to make Shinfield a greener and more welcoming place for everyone.
