Isle of Man Launches AI Hub to Boost Smart, Ethical Tech Use

The Isle of Man government has launched a new office focused on Artificial Intelligence, known as the National Office for Artificial Intelligence. The main goal of this office is to help people and businesses understand how to use AI in a responsible and effective way. The government believes that AI can bring many benefits, but it is important to make sure it is used properly. The office will work to educate people about AI, help them develop new skills, and encourage businesses to use AI to improve their work.

To set up this office, the government has used one million pounds from the Economic Strategy Fund. This money will be spent on training, raising awareness, and working with different industries to make sure everyone knows how to use AI safely. Lyle Wraxall, the chief executive of Digital Isle of Man, said that it is important for people to use AI responsibly and ethically. He explained that the office will be a place where people can get advice about using AI, learn about the risks, and find out about the opportunities that AI can offer for the island.

Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston said that education is the key to helping people feel comfortable with AI. He understands that some people are worried about how AI might affect jobs in the future. However, he believes that AI will not necessarily cause job losses, but instead, it will change the way people work and may lead to new types of jobs. He said that it is important to recognize these changes and help people prepare for them. Chief Minister Alfred Cannan also spoke about how AI is already changing the economy and society. He said that the new office will help the Isle of Man keep up with these changes by working together with businesses and the public.
