New Koomson novel set on Brighton seafront

Dorothy Koomson, one of Britain’s best-selling adult fiction authors, is releasing a new novel called Beach Hut 512, which is set on the Brighton seafront. The story is a thriller that explores the mysteries behind the colorful beach huts after a body is discovered in one of them. Koomson, who moved to Brighton in 2007, says that living by the sea inspires her writing. She enjoys taking walks along the seafront, which helps her think through her stories and solve problems in her plots.

Koomson’s books are often featured on the Sunday Times bestseller list, and she has sold more than 2. 5 million copies in the UK alone. Her novels have been translated into over 30 languages, making her stories popular around the world. Some of her well-known books include My Other Husband, The Chocolate Run, and The Ice Cream Girls, which was adapted into a three-part TV series. Koomson is famous for writing emotional and thought-provoking thrillers, but she is also passionate about encouraging children to read for fun.

She wrote her first novel at the age of 13 and has been writing ever since. Koomson believes that having a variety of books available to children is important because it helps them build empathy and see themselves in the stories they read. According to a study by the National Literacy Trust, only one in three children in the UK enjoy reading, which is the lowest rate since 2005. The same research found that many children do not have their own books at home, and 40 percent of children from ethnic minority backgrounds do not see themselves represented in the books they read. Koomson says this needs to change, especially for Black children, so that all kids can feel like they are the main character in a story. She has been recognized as one of the most influential Black people in Britain and has served as a judge for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Koomson hopes her work will inspire more children to read and see themselves as heroes in their own stories.
