Young Artists Shine Bright: Pupils' Masterpiece Hits National Gallery Walls!

A group of students from Luton Primary School in Chatham have achieved something very special. Their collaborative artwork is now being displayed at the National Gallery in London, one of the most famous art galleries in the world. The students, three girls and two boys, are shown smiling proudly in front of their colorful piece, which hangs next to Canaletto's Regatta on the Grand Canal. This famous painting inspired the students to create their own masterpiece. Their classroom is filled with art, showing how much they enjoy being creative.

The competition that the students entered was very tough, with thousands of entries from over 400 schools across the country. Despite the challenge, the students from Luton Primary School were chosen as the winners. Yoel, who is eight years old, said he felt very proud of himself and his classmates. Zimal, also eight, was excited to visit the gallery with her best friends. Their head teacher, Liz Gamet, said the whole school was incredibly proud of the children. She explained that having their artwork displayed in the National Gallery was an achievement beyond anything they had ever dreamed of.

The students' artwork was created as part of the Take One Picture programme. Each year, the National Gallery selects one painting from its collection for primary school students to use as inspiration. This year, the chosen painting was Canaletto's Regatta on the Grand Canal. The students worked together to create a building, with each child designing a unique window. The finished piece is a colorful house with many different windows and bright red double doors, all set against a blue background and signed by the children. Darius, another eight-year-old, said he enjoyed working as a team, and Kiara said it felt like a dream come true. The school dedicated a whole week to making art, and the students created over 500 pieces in total. Their art teacher, David Frankum, selected the piece to submit to the gallery. He described seeing their work in the gallery as a 'pinch yourself' moment, saying the excitement never goes away. In addition to the National Gallery, a sculpture by a Year 5 student from the school was chosen for display at the Royal Academy of Arts as part of The Young Artists' Summer Show. There were more than 25,000 applicants for this show, making it another impressive achievement. Both pieces of art will be on display throughout the summer, and the students and staff are thrilled to share their creativity with so many people.
