Island Kids Meet Storytelling Stars in Magical Book Week Adventure!
Children's authors are coming to the island to take part in the annual book week, where they will meet and speak with more than 5,000 students across the bailiwick. The visiting authors are Peter Bently, Jenny Pearson, and Ele Fountain, all of whom have won awards for their children's books. During their visit, they will tour local schools and participate in public events at the Guille-Allès Library. These events include creative writing workshops and a story and crafts session, giving children the chance to learn directly from professional writers.
Ellie Fowkes, who leads school programs at the library, said the week is always a highlight for students and staff. She described it as a 'wonderful opportunity' for children to meet the authors whose books they enjoy. According to Ms Fowkes, 'We're extremely excited to be welcoming three brilliant authors to the island this year. Author visits make a lasting impact on children - they help inspire a love of reading and writing, and above all encourage children to read for pleasure, which is so important for both their education and their wellbeing. '
The library is preparing for a busy week, with activities designed to engage children and spark their creativity. The children's section of the library is decorated with green carpet, cushions, balloons, and shelves full of books, creating a welcoming space for young readers. Outside, the library features a courtyard with benches and a tree, where visitors can relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The book week aims to celebrate the magic of reading and give children memorable experiences with authors, helping them develop a lifelong love of books.
