China, Japan, South Korea’s top diplomats meet, agree on leadership summit at an early date

The foreign ministers of China, Japan, and South Korea recently had a significant meeting in Busan, South Korea, after not seeing each other for four years. They agreed that it's time to plan a big summit where their countries' leaders can talk about important stuff. South Korea's foreign minister, Park Jin, announced that they're all on the same page about having this summit as soon as they can find a good time for everyone. They're aiming to get this done by the end of this year or early next year. nnRelations between Beijing and its neighbors have been tense because Japan and South Korea are getting closer to the United States. To ease some of the tension, China and Japan are looking to talk more and have agreed to restart their strategic dialogue, which has been on pause since early 2020. They also want to have regular meetings about diplomacy and security. nnDespite their efforts to improve relations, China and Japan still have some disagreements. One big issue is Taiwan. China insists that Japan should stick to the 'one-China' policy, while Japan maintains its usual stance on Taiwan. Another problem is the ban China has on Japanese seafood, which started after the Fukushima nuclear incident. They're planning to discuss this further. Wang Yi also met with South Korea's Park Jin to reaffirm their partnership and talked about possibly having China's President Xi visit South Korea. Park Jin urged China to help reduce tensions with North Korea and to treat North Korean defectors kindly.
