Hong Kong proposes open-air museums to preserve historic military sites and relics in country parks

Hong Kong is thinking about creating an open-air museum in one of its country parks to protect historical sites from World War II. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has shortlisted two important buildings, Pinewood Battery and Shing Mun Redoubt, for this project. They're checking out the good and bad points of each site. nnPinewood Battery was built by the British in 1905 and is the highest fort in Hong Kong. It was important for defending the city but was shut down in 1913. Shing Mun Redoubt was a key defense spot during the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941. It's known for its tunnels and fighting trenches, and it's probably the only place with these features that's still around. nnHong Kong's leader has announced plans to improve cultural places over ten years. The Country and Marine Parks Board, which gives advice on park matters, supports the museum idea. However, they're concerned about keeping the sites open to the public and managing lots of visitors. They also want to make sure the sites are safe. A history expert is worried that making the sites into museums could harm the historical things there. He thinks it's more important to restore them to how they originally looked.
