Anais Muczynski, a 36-year-old orthoptist, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2023 after she found a lump in her left breast. She and her husband Vincent, who is a researcher, live in London but moved from France in 2018. When Anais was told she had stage one breast cancer, she and Vincent felt hopeful because the cancer was only in her breast tissue or nearby lymph nodes. Anais went through chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and a double mastectomy, which means both breasts were removed to stop the cancer from spreading. By June 2024, doctors said she was disease-free, and the couple was relieved.

However, just a few months later, Anais discovered a new lump near her collarbone. This time, the doctors told her the cancer was stage four, which means it had spread and could not be cured. Even though this was very hard news, Anais tried to stay positive. She was accepted into a clinical trial in January 2025 and is responding well to the new treatment. Because of this, she has been able to return to work and even take part in aerial arts classes, something she enjoys in her free time. Last year, Anais performed at a charity gala for the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which was a special moment for her. She says that while she sometimes feels sad about her illness, she wants to make the most of her good days and is grateful for the support from her husband and friends.

Vincent, inspired by Anais and other patients, decided to use his scientific skills to help people understand breast cancer better. He took microscope images of breast cancer cells being treated with a new kind of immunotherapy. He then turned these images into large, colorful artworks. These artworks are now part of an exhibition called Beyond The Ribbon at the Firepit Art Gallery in Greenwich. The exhibition is supported by the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which helps people affected by breast cancer. Anais says that seeing the images helps her face her cancer and realize that there can be beauty even in difficult things. Vincent hopes that his art will help patients, families, and others learn more about breast cancer and how treatments work. The Pink Ribbon Foundation says that every cancer cell has a human story, and this exhibition helps share those stories with the world.
