One thing that made Maximo Park stand out was Paul's Teesside accent, which gave their music a different sound. Music magazines described their debut as energetic and carefully crafted. Paul recalls that the band did not have a big marketing budget, so they focused on playing live shows. They often supported other bands like The Futureheads and Bloc Party, and sometimes won over their fans. By the time their first album was released, they had already built a strong following through hard work.

Despite his success, Paul Smith never expected to become a musician. He was not a singer before joining Maximo Park, and although he loved music, he never imagined he would be singing, playing guitar, and writing songs for a living. He describes his career as a miracle and is grateful that people still come to see the band perform. The anniversary tour will start in York and finish with two nights in Newcastle. Paul says he is committed to making music for life, no matter how many people are listening. Over the years, Maximo Park has released eight albums and explored many different musical styles. Paul believes that his Teesside accent is a big part of the band's identity, and as soon as he starts singing, fans know it is Maximo Park. The band is proud of their journey and excited to keep making music for their fans.
