A captivating light and sound show is returning to a historic cathedral, inviting visitors to embark on a fascinating journey through time. This event, known as Sarum Lights, takes place at the stunning Salisbury Cathedral and is produced by the art company Luxmuralis. The show features vibrant light projections that illuminate the cathedral's exterior and interior, showcasing a variety of colors, including yellow, blue, and purple. This year's theme is centered around the concept of time, and the event will be held every evening until Saturday. Peter Walker, the artistic director of Luxmuralis, expressed his excitement about the installation, stating, 'This large-scale installation is art on an epic scale, allowing visitors to experience how time has inspired and influenced scientists, historians, and artists. ' He emphasized that the journey through history provides an opportunity for people to understand how time plays a crucial role in shaping our lives. The immersive experience includes a range of artistic elements, such as early cave paintings and a representation of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. The installation begins outside the cathedral, guiding visitors through various sections of the Grade I listed building. Inside, the nave is transformed into a mesmerizing display of swirling lights in shades of blue and orange. The projections will also feature text from H. G. Wells’ classic novel, The Time Machine, and illustrate the intricate workings of clocks. Additionally, an interactive installation called A Note to Myself encourages visitors to write messages to their future selves. These postcards will be collected and displayed as part of a beautiful cascade within the cathedral. Sarum Lights will commence at 5:30 PM each evening and will run until November 9. On November 5 and 6, there will also be low sound screenings from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. This event offers a unique opportunity for individuals and families to engage with art and history in an enjoyable and enlightening manner.
