Aimee Betro, a 45-year-old woman from Wisconsin, USA, became involved in a serious crime in England that led to her arrest and conviction. The story began when Betro met Mohammed Nazir on a dating app. Nazir and his father, Mohammed Aslam, were upset after a fight at a shop owned by businessman Aslat Mahumad in Birmingham. The fight was reportedly about the price of a wedding suit, and both Nazir and Aslam were injured. Seeking revenge, they recruited Betro to help them carry out a plan against Mr Mahumad. Despite having no criminal history, Betro agreed and traveled to the UK to participate in the plot.

On the night of the attack, Betro disguised herself in a niqab and waited outside the Mahumad family home in Yardley, Birmingham. When Sikander Ali, Mr Mahumad's son, arrived, Betro tried to shoot him at close range, but her gun malfunctioned. Sikander managed to escape unharmed. Later that night, Betro returned and fired three shots at the empty house. The next day, she left the UK, and a second plan was set in motion. Nazir joined her in the US, and together they tried to frame an innocent man in Derby by sending him packages containing ammunition and gun parts from Illinois. Nazir even tipped off the police to make the frame-up more convincing.

However, the police found crucial DNA evidence linking Betro to both the attempted shooting and the packages. Her DNA was discovered inside all three parcels and on a glove in a getaway car. This evidence proved Betro's involvement and cleared the innocent man. After five years on the run, Betro was finally tracked down in Armenia and extradited to the UK. Last week, she was convicted of conspiracy to murder, possession of a firearm with intent, and trying to illegally import ammunition. She is scheduled to be sentenced in August. The case involved cooperation between several agencies, including the FBI and the Armenian government, and required a lot of hard work to bring Betro to justice. Her downfall came not just from the failed attack, but from the second plot to frame someone else, which left behind enough evidence for the police to build a strong case against her.
