The festival, which starts this weekend, will feature more than 40 artists and groups from around the world. Artistic director Jack Bazalgette says that the theme for this year is 'doing classical music differently,' and he wants to make sure that everyone feels welcome, even if they have never been to a classical concert before.

The festival will take place in a variety of venues, from the grand Tewkesbury Abbey and Cheltenham Town Hall to more unusual spots like Deya Brewery and Pittville Pump Room. This mix of locations is meant to make the festival feel fresh and exciting. Some concerts will be traditional, but others will be much more relaxed. At these relaxed concerts, people can sit wherever they want, interact with the musicians, and even get up and dance if they feel like it. Bazalgette says that some people feel nervous about classical music because they are not sure how to act or when to clap, but at this festival, everyone is encouraged to respond to the music in their own way.

The festival's lineup is also designed to stretch the boundaries of what classical music can be. In addition to classical pieces, there will be performances by folk, jazz, and brass bands. The opening concert will feature the Aurora Orchestra, who will play their entire program from memory, without any sheet music. On the second day, Senegalese artist Dudù Kouate will perform using instruments he has made himself from plants grown in his garden. One of these instruments is called a ngoni, which is made from a gourd and has strings like a guitar or banjo. The festival also has an outreach program that runs music workshops in schools throughout the year, helping to introduce young people to music.
