The BBC Proms, a world-famous music festival, is returning to Bristol for a weekend packed with exciting concerts. Traditionally held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Proms will also take place at Bristol Beacon from August 22 to August 24. The festival will feature a wide range of performances, from the Danish National Vocal ensemble to a classical DJ set, showing that the Proms is not just about classical music. The concerts will spread out from the main concert hall into other public spaces in the building, creating a lively atmosphere for everyone who attends.

Simon Wales, the chief executive of Bristol Beacon, expressed his pride in welcoming the Proms back to the city. He described Bristol as a vibrant and adventurous musical city, and he believes the Proms weekend will reflect that spirit. According to Mr Wales, the event is a genre-defying mix of music, bringing together local artists and international performers. This is the second year in a row that Bristol Beacon has hosted the festival, following its reopening in November 2023. In addition to entertaining audiences in person, many of the performances will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, making them accessible to listeners around the world. Mr Wales explained that last year was the first time the Proms came to Bristol, and there was a lot to learn about organizing live broadcasts in the new spaces. He expects things to run more smoothly this year, with fewer last-minute challenges. While the festival will include traditional classical music, the program is designed to challenge people’s ideas about what classical music can be. Mr Wales emphasized that Bristol Beacon is a civic venue owned by the city, and as a charity, they aim to welcome everyone to all types of music.
