She even traveled all the way to Riga, Latvia, just to use a photo booth at the city's bus station. Kate's interest in photo booths began when she was a teenager. She and her friends would spend hours taking silly pictures together. While her friends eventually lost interest, Kate never stopped. Now, it is much harder for her to find old-style photo booths. Most have been replaced by digital ones, and there are only a few left in the UK. Kate often has to travel to London or Manchester to find one.

Photo booths made it possible for ordinary people to have their pictures taken. Kate points out that photo booths were especially important for people who might not have been welcome in a professional studio, such as people of color or members of the LGBT community.
