Labour councillor Maggie O'Rourke, who represents the Benn ward, expressed her concerns about the lack of understanding among young people regarding the seriousness of carrying weapons. She pointed out that simply being caught with a knife is a serious crime, and it is alarming that the normalization of knife carrying seems to be spreading across the country. The council, which is led by Labour with support from the Liberal Democrats, is committed to raising awareness through the #KnifeFreeRugby campaign, making it clear that serious violence will not be accepted. In addition to the sculpture, a knife surrender bin has been placed in Hillmorton, allowing individuals to safely dispose of their weapons.
