At the same time, a survey named Walsall the most deprived town in the UK, which made the group want to take action. They decided to organize these music events to bring people together and show that Walsall still has a strong and creative community. The group includes regular performers from Walsall, open mic hosts, rehearsal room owners, music teachers, and even some bands from the past who are reuniting for the occasion. One spokesperson explained that before the pandemic, Walsall had more than twice as many live music venues and a much bigger community of music fans. Now, with the cost of living going up and the effects of the pandemic still being felt, it's been harder for music to thrive. The closure of the Oak Inn showed just how much grassroots music scenes are at risk because of these challenges. But instead of giving up, the group is working together to build a better future for music in Walsall. They said they can't wait for the government to fix things, so they're taking matters into their own hands. They want everyone to know that there is a place for all musicians and music fans at these events. To get people excited, the group held warm-up events in Walsall town centre on 18 and 25 April. The main launch of Walsall Music May-hem will be on 1 May at Hednesford Ex Servicemen's Club.
