A stunning exhibition featuring a giant moon sculpture is currently on display at the Cathedral Isle of Man, and it is set to conclude this Sunday. This impressive artwork, known as the Museum of the Moon, was created by artist Luke Jerram and measures an astonishing 20 feet in diameter. The sculpture is designed using detailed images from NASA, making it look incredibly realistic. The moon is suspended in the air, surrounded by the cathedral's beautiful stained glass windows and tall, arching pillars. Since its opening on February 9, the exhibition has attracted many visitors, and it is expected to draw even more people before it closes. Last year, Jerram's previous work, Gaia, was showcased at St Thomas' Church in Douglas, where it attracted around 13,000 visitors. The final day of the exhibition will feature a special short film at 7:00 PM, which will explore the history of the cathedral. Following the film, there will be a delightful ballroom dancing display at 7:30 PM. The evening will conclude with a peaceful service of compline at 9:00 PM, allowing visitors to reflect on their experience under the moon. Throughout the exhibition, a variety of events have taken place, including choral performances, pilates classes held beneath the artwork, and informative talks about dark skies. The moon sculpture has traveled around the world, having been displayed in countries like New Zealand and Canada, and it has even been installed in unique locations such as forests and above swimming pools. The scale of the sculpture is approximately 1:600,000, meaning that each centimeter of the artwork represents 3. 7 miles of the moon's surface. The Cathedral Isle of Man will be open on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Sunday, the church will have a full day of activities. The day will start with morning services at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, followed by a Songs of Praise event at 3:30 PM. The short film about the cathedral will be shown at 7:00 PM, and the ballroom dancing display will take place shortly after at 7:10 PM. As the evening progresses, the cathedral will be darkened, creating a serene atmosphere for the final service at 9:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to come and experience the magic of the moon sculpture before it departs.
