The train, which was built in 1948 at Swindon Works, was taken out of service in 1964 and sent to the scrapyard, where it sat for years among hundreds of other old trains. Thanks to the efforts of railway enthusiasts and preservationists, Wightwick Hall was saved and brought back to life. The Quainton Railway Society, which runs the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, said they are extremely proud that their train, once destined for the scrap heap, will now play the role of the iconic Hogwarts Express. The train is currently on loan to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex, where it operates on a line near Brighton. Stephen Green, the general manager of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, explained that steam trains like Wightwick Hall need to be maintained and run regularly to keep them in working condition. The Bluebell Railway has a long track, which is perfect for this purpose. For the new Harry Potter series, Wightwick Hall will be used for filming for six months each year, after which it will return to West Sussex. Members of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre team will supervise the train during filming to make sure it is properly maintained and stays in good shape. In the original Harry Potter films, a different train called Olton Hall was used as the Hogwarts Express. Now, Wightwick Hall will take over this famous role in the new TV series. The show has already announced some of its cast, including well-known actors like Nick Frost, Paapa Essiedu, Katherine Parkinson, and Paul Whitehouse. Three child actors will play the main characters, though their names have not been revealed yet. Mr. Green hopes that the train’s appearance in the Harry Potter series will attract new fans and visitors to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. He believes it could be a big boost for tourism, as people will want to see the famous train and learn about its history. Visitors to the centre can also explore the engineering workshops and see other trains being restored.
