A vibrant new art trail has been launched in the heart of the city center, showcasing original and contemporary artwork created by local artists. This initiative is organized by the Gloucester Contemporary Artists, a community interest company dedicated to promoting art within the community. The art trail is part of a special event called Adopt An Artist, which aims to make contemporary art more accessible and engaging for the public. Throughout the month-long event, various shops, cafes, and businesses in the city center will display stunning artwork made by talented local artists in their windows. David Finch, a representative from the Gloucester Contemporary Artists, expressed the organization's desire to involve the people of Gloucester in temporary art projects, stating, 'We want to get the people of Gloucester involved in temporary art by having a go themselves. ' This initiative encourages community participation and creativity. Gloucester currently lacks a central space dedicated to showcasing contemporary art, which is why the artists are exploring innovative ways to bring art directly to the public. In addition to the art trail, the organization is hosting a competition for aspiring artists. Participants are invited to create a piece of artwork inspired by their favorite piece displayed on the trail. Selected entries will be exhibited at the Cathedral Quarter starting June 21, where they will be displayed alongside the artwork that inspired them. The top three entries will receive prizes and will remain on display until June 28. The Gloucester Art Trail will conclude on June 30, providing ample opportunity for the community to engage with the art. One of the featured artists, Gilly Hill, is proudly displaying her painting on the trail.
