2000 年代車庫搖滾金曲《Do You Mind》席捲英國 TikTok 夏日熱潮
British singer Kyla is enjoying a big comeback thanks to her 2008 garage track Do You Mind, which has been named TikTok's UK song of the summer. The song was already popular when it first came out, but it became even more famous in 2016 when Canadian rapper Drake sampled it in his hit song One Dance. Now, Do You Mind is trending again, especially on TikTok, where it has been used in nearly 650,000 videos in the UK and has gathered over 500 million views. Kyla, who wrote the song with her husband DJ Paleface, told BBC Newsbeat that it feels 'surreal' and 'incredible' to see her song become popular again almost 20 years after it was released. Last month, Kyla performed Do You Mind live with singer Jorja Smith at the All Points East festival in London. She said it was an amazing experience to hear about 40,000 people singing her song back to her. Kyla explained that when Drake used her song in 2016, she felt like people only liked it because of him. But now, with TikTok, she feels like people are finally recognizing her own work.
Do You Mind has become the soundtrack for all kinds of TikTok videos, from lip-syncs to fashion reveals. Kyla especially enjoys the creative videos where people use dolls or honey to match the lyrics 'baby' and 'honey' in her song. The popularity of Do You Mind is part of a bigger trend, as UK garage music is making a comeback. Artists like Sammy Virji, AJ Tracey, and Disclosure are bringing garage sounds back into their music. Other garage tracks, like Silva Bumpa's On 2nite and Prospa and Cloonee's Free Your Mind, are also doing well on TikTok. Kyla believes that people are rediscovering old songs they love, and younger listeners are hearing these tracks for the first time. She says, 'The younger generation are just learning these songs but they've been there for time. '
It's not just Kyla's song that is getting a second chance on TikTok. Oasis' classic Wonderwall from 1995 became the second biggest UK song of the summer on TikTok, especially after it was sung by fans during England's World Cup matches. The song saw a huge increase in searches and was used in more than 300,000 TikTok videos, even climbing back up the singles chart. Another Oasis song, Champagne Supernova, also made it into TikTok's top 10. The trend of old songs becoming popular again is happening worldwide. Katy Perry's The One That Got Away, released in 2011, was named TikTok's global song of the summer. It has been used in over 15 million TikTok videos. Katy Perry said it feels 'surreal' to see her song have a new moment so many years later. She enjoys watching people use her song in their own stories and says it's special to see an old chapter of her career come back to life. Thanks to TikTok, many classic songs are finding new fans and becoming hits all over again.
