Grace Han, a chemistry professor, moved from Boston to California and quickly noticed how much stronger the sun was there. Also, to release the stored energy, the team had to use hydrochloric acid, which is a dangerous chemical. Grace hopes that in the future, they can find a way to use regular sunlight and safer chemicals. The ultimate goal is to use this technology to heat homes and buildings without burning fossil fuels, which would help reduce pollution. Some scientists are working on making solid versions of the technology, like window coatings that could warm up rooms. While there are still obstacles, Grace and her team are excited to keep improving this new way to store solar energy. They believe that with more research, it could become a useful and clean way to provide heat and energy in the future.
