A remarkable new art installation is coming to Grimsby Minster in North East Lincolnshire. The installation, called Helios, is a giant sculpture of the sun created by artist Luke Jerram. Helios is named after the ancient Greek god who represented the sun. This impressive artwork will be displayed inside the church from 9 April and will stay for four weeks, giving people plenty of time to visit during the Easter holidays and even on Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May. The sun sculpture is not just big, it is also very detailed. It measures 19 feet across, which is about the size of a small van. The artist used more than 400,000 high-resolution photographs of the sun’s surface, along with data from NASA, to make the sculpture look as real as possible. The inside of the sculpture is lit up, so it glows with bright yellow and orange colors, just like the real sun. When people look up at it, they will see all the patterns and textures that make the sun so interesting. The experience is made even more special by surround sound created by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson. The sounds will fill the church and make visitors feel like they are standing under the real sun. Charlotte Bowen, who is the chief executive and artistic director of The Culture House, is very excited about the exhibition. The Culture House is an arts charity based in Grimsby, and they are helping to bring Helios to the area. Charlotte said that this is the first time the Helios installation has been shown in the Lincolnshire and Humber region. She believes it will be a wonderful experience for everyone who comes to see it. The Culture House also announced that Helios is just the beginning of five years of exciting and accessible art projects planned for North East Lincolnshire. This is possible because of a £1. 4 million grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. The money is part of a program called Our Future Starts Here, which aims to inspire change and creativity in the community. Luke Jerram is known for making large and impressive art installations. He has created a sculpture of the Earth, which has been displayed in many places around the world, and a sculpture of the moon. Now, with Helios, people in Grimsby have the chance to see his work up close. The sun sculpture will be open for everyone to visit, and tickets can be booked in advance.
