A new art gallery is set to open in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and it will focus on showcasing the work of artists from the South Asian diaspora. The Runjeet Singh Gallery will have its grand opening this weekend, starting on Friday and running through Sunday, at its location on Chandos Street. The founder of the gallery, Runjeet Singh, is an experienced art curator who has exhibited his work internationally in cities like London, New York, Paris, and Mumbai. He is also known for being an expert on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow. Singh expressed his excitement about opening the gallery in his hometown, saying that it is a proud moment for him to highlight the creative and artistic spirit of Leamington Spa. The gallery has been designed to accommodate a variety of artworks, from large sculptures to delicate Indian miniature paintings. It will host a rotating schedule of exhibitions, featuring both group and solo shows, to keep the experience fresh for visitors.

The Midlands region, where the gallery is located, has a rich cultural identity that has been shaped by South Asian communities over the years. The organisers of the gallery hope to celebrate the connection between South Asian and British cultures in the UK. The opening exhibition will feature paintings and other works from eight local and national artists, including Amrit Singh Sandhu, Simran Kaur Panesar, and Rati Devi Sivyer. One of the paintings on display is a colourful illustration of a crocodile floating in dark water, reaching up toward a bright yellow sun. The gallery wants to be a welcoming space where people can learn about and appreciate South Asian art and culture.
