The company sent an application to the Reading Borough Council, asking for permission to use a recently completed building in the Reading International Business Park. If the council approves, Tesla will use the facility for car servicing, repairs, and as a small showroom for their vehicles. The new site, called Reading Logistics Park, will allow Tesla to offer maintenance and general repair work for their customers in the area.

According to documents from ELG Planning, Tesla plans to use the building as a car servicing center, a bodyshop for fixing car exteriors, a vehicle delivery hub, and a small showroom. The main purpose of the service center and bodyshop is to provide maintenance and repair services for Tesla vehicles. The showroom will give existing Tesla owners, who are visiting for service, a chance to see the latest Tesla models. This could help Tesla attract more customers and keep current owners interested in their products.

Tesla first opened a dealership in Reading on Basingstoke Road, in a building that used to be a Peugeot dealership. Since launching its Model S in 2012 in the United States and later in the UK in 2014, Tesla has become a leading electric car manufacturer. Elon Musk became CEO in 2008, after the company was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003. Musk is also known for owning SpaceX, a space exploration company, and for buying the social media platform Twitter in 2022, which he renamed X.
