Charlotte is upset because she feels that the history of Kidderminster is being forgotten. Many of the old buildings from the carpet-making days have been torn down, and she worries that the town’s heritage will disappear. She says that people living in Kidderminster today often don’t know about the town’s past or understand how important the carpet industry was. The museum is the only one of its kind in the UK, which makes its closure even more devastating for her. The Museum of Carpet has been open for 13 years and has a large collection of objects, archives, books, and photographs that show the history of carpet making in Kidderminster. Charlotte says that volunteering at the museum helped her grow as an artist and learn new things about textiles. She explains that Kidderminster has always been a textile town, with canals, sheep, and the River Severn nearby to help with washing and spinning wool.
