Despite facing many challenges, Matt continued to play cricket and even captained the 2nd XI at Eight Ash Green Cricket Club. He also earned a first-class degree in economics from Loughborough University, showing his dedication both on and off the field.

During his final months, while undergoing chemotherapy, Matt secretly wrote a thriller novel called 'A Transfer of Consciousness. ' He only revealed his project to his family two weeks before he passed away in December at the age of 30. The book tells the story of a police officer who, after being diagnosed with cancer, becomes involved in a mysterious medical world. Matt arranged for all profits from the book to be donated to charity, specifically the Teenage Cancer Trust, as a way to give back for the support he and his family received.

Jamie, Matt's younger brother, was surprised and proud when he learned about the book. He took on the responsibility of getting it published, working closely with Matt's best friend. After many hours of effort, the 164-page book was finally published in May and was officially launched during a memorial cricket match in June. Jamie said that Matt never let his illness define him and always stayed positive, continuing to do the things he loved. The family hopes that Matt's story and his book will inspire others and help raise important funds for young people facing cancer. Jamie described Matt as one of the best brothers anyone could ask for, and the family is grateful for the support they have received from their community.
