However, Singapore is now facing an energy crisis because of the ongoing war in Iran. The conflict has disrupted oil and gas supplies, causing energy prices to rise sharply. In response, the Singaporean government has asked all public office workers to set their air-conditioning to at least 25 degrees Celsius. This is a change for many, as offices are usually kept much cooler. The government is also installing energy-saving technology like LED lights and smart sensors to help reduce power use.

Singapore is not alone in this effort. Other countries in South East Asia, such as Thailand, are also taking steps to save energy. Thailand has asked people to keep their air-conditioning at 26 or 27 degrees and to use fans when possible. The region depends heavily on oil and gas that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked since the war began. This has made it difficult for countries to get the fuel they need. In Singapore, air-conditioning is everywhere. Offices, shopping malls, buses, trains, and most homes have air-conditioning units. Some people even wear sweaters indoors because the air-conditioning is so strong.

Now, the government is encouraging everyone to use less energy. They say that raising the air-conditioning temperature by just one degree can cut energy use by about 10 percent. Workers are being told to use fans and to take public transport to save fuel. Businesses and the public are also being asked to help. Fuel prices have gone up, and the government is warning people to be ready for more economic problems if the war continues. Singapore has not started using its emergency fuel reserves or rationing energy yet, but the situation is serious. Other countries like the Philippines and South Korea are also struggling. The Philippines imports almost all its oil from the Middle East and has had to take strong measures to save power. South Korea is encouraging people to take shorter showers and only use washing machines on weekends. Experts say this crisis is a tough lesson for Asia. Countries need to learn to use energy more efficiently and find new sources of fuel so they are not so affected by problems in other parts of the world.
