Weymouth, a seaside town in the South of England, is preparing for a unique and vibrant dance event that will transform its streets and beach into a stage. The event, called Dusk Till Dark, will feature more than 60 performers, including dancers dressed in lilac skirts and red and orange tops, each carrying one of over 600 silk pennants. The dancers will parade through the town, starting at Weymouth Town Bridge and making their way to the seafront, where the performance will end on the sands of Weymouth Beach. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, beginning at 7:00 pm.

Leading the procession will be a carnival queen, and the performance will blend contemporary dance with martial arts, accompanied by live soundscapes played from boom bikes. The finale on the beach will be especially striking, with hundreds of silk pennants planted in the sand, creating a colorful and artistic scene. The promenade performance is a collaboration between Attakkalari, a dance company from Bengaluru, India, and Kinetika, a UK arts charity known for its community-led silk creations. Three dancers from Attakkalari will join the event, bringing an international flavor to the show.

Dusk Till Dark is part of the biennial Inside Out Dorset Festival and was created by Activate Performing Arts, a charity dedicated to bringing creative experiences to the community. Dom Kippin, the producer, expressed excitement about bringing the performance to Weymouth, a town with a strong connection to the sea and storytelling. He believes the event will turn the town into a living artwork, with over 60 performers and hundreds of silk pennants. The parade route is about 1 kilometer long and is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the spectacle. There will be an accessible viewing area on The Esplanade, and on Saturday, the performance will include an audio description for those who need it.
