To keep the experience authentic, attendees are required to wear costumes that resemble traditional hobbit clothing, and modern styles, patterns, and logos are not allowed. The festival is designed to transport people back in time, making them feel as if they are truly living in Tolkien's magical world.

One of the highlights of the festival is The Four Farthing Games, where four groups of hobbits compete in a series of traditional games and activities. These games take place every day, and on Saturday night, the winning group is awarded the Four Farthings Cup. In addition to the games, there are dance workshops held each morning and afternoon, allowing participants to learn and enjoy hobbit-style dancing. The festival also features themed workshops, such as basket weaving and walking stick carving, giving people the opportunity to try out new skills and crafts.

Music and dancing are a big part of the festival, with live performances and group dances taking place, especially in the evenings around the campfire. Visitors are encouraged to fully embrace their hobbit personas by choosing hobbit names for themselves and staying in character throughout the event. There are also special areas like the Shirriffs' outpost, which helps maintain the quality of the games and drinks. Some attendees have set up stalls to sell items like mead, a traditional drink enjoyed by hobbits. The festival runs for five days, and everyone is encouraged to leave their everyday lives behind and immerse themselves in the joyful and adventurous spirit of Tolkien's world. The event is not only a celebration of the beloved books but also a way for fans to connect with each other and create lasting memories in a magical setting inspired by the landscapes that influenced Tolkien himself.
